The West Memphis Base Railroad is a three-mile branch line track that allows Union Pacific to service its customers in the Port of West Memphis, AR. This line of track was recently rebuilt in 2015 through a 6.5-million-dollar TIGER grant awarded to The City of West Memphis. With this rebuilding, funds were utilized to facilitate 136 lbs. rail, replace all the road crossings, replace railroad ties, and build the Bulk Transfer Facility Terminal #2 due to the growing business demands in the area. With the three miles of new rail, this line has the capacity to store train cars and transfer goods such as steel, propane, and non-hazardous as well as hazardous chemicals.
