Machinist (TERR)

Position Summary

The Machinist will set up and operate a variety of machine tools to produce precision parts. The selected individual will have experience as a machinist, tool & die maker, or in millwright. The ability to work with others to be productive is essential to the success of this position, the company, and all team members.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: ​

  • Operate machine tools such as drill presses, lathes, boring mills, milling machines, surface grinders, etc.
  • Precise measurements using micrometers, calipers, height gauges, bore gages, etc.
  • Use of common power and hand tools
  • Operation of machinery like fork-lifts
  • Selecting cutting feeds and speeds for machining
  • Reading/interpreting mechanical drawings.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • Prior experience working in a railroad environment.
  • Experience welding/brazing/torch cutting.
  • Hydraulics knowledge
  • Electrical knowledge
  • Knowledge of how a steam locomotive works.
  • Familiarity with Federal Railroad Administration Regulations
  • Familiarity with ASME or NBIC codes
  • Computer knowledge, including Microsoft Office Products

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Must have the ability to apply common sense and understanding to carry out written and oral instructions.
  • Must have the ability to write legibly.
  • Must be able to perform duties that require heavy lifting.
  • Must be willing to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Must have the ability to recognize problems.

 

Work Environment:

  • The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those a team member encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
  • The team member is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions and elements, noise, and fumes from gas, oil, and grease.
