Operations Safety Specialist (JTH)

Job Description:

We are seeking a seasoned professional with extensive experience in transload, railroad, and logistics operations to help oversee and drive a strong culture of safety and compliance. This role requires deep knowledge of transportation regulations, operational efficiency, and team leadership to ensure the safe and effective transfer of goods across multiple modes of transport.

Operational Excellence:

    1. Support operations: Lead safe and efficient flow of goods through transload facilities, ensuring safe, timely and accurate movement of goods between different transportation modes (rail, truck, etc.).
    2. Implement process improvements: Identify areas for improvement in operational efficiency and implement solutions to optimize workflows to help reduce costs.
    3. Ensure customer satisfaction: Work closely with Jaguar Operations, Commercial and Customers to meet their needs and expectations, providing responsive service and resolving issues that may arise.

Safety Leadership & Compliance:

    1. Promote a strong safety culture: Lead by example and instill a commitment to safety within the team, ensuring all team members understand and adhere to safety protocols.
    2. Ensure compliance with regulations: Deep knowledge of transportation regulations, including those related to rail operations (e.g., FRA) and transload activities, is crucial.
    3. Develop, support and enforce safety policies and procedures: Implement and maintain safety procedures to mitigate hazards and prevent accidents.
    4. Lead and support safety investigations: Conduct investigations of incidents and near-misses, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
    5. Conduct safety, operational appraisals and inspections: Perform regular checks of equipment, processes, and facilities. Ensuring compliance with safety standards and meeting customers’ requirements.

Team Management & Development:

    1. Support and mentor team members: Guide, train, and support the operations team, fostering a collaborative and high-performing work environment.
    2. Support team performance: Set expectations, monitor performance, and provide coaching and feedback to optimize individual and team output.
    3. Foster a collaborative work environment and promote teamwork

Financial Management:

  1. Monitor and control operational costs, including labor, equipment maintenance, and transportation expenses.
  2. Participate in budget preparation and analysis, making strategic decisions to optimize resources

Qualifications:

  • Ability to travel 50% of the time.
  • Proven experience in transload, railroad, and logistics operations.
  • Demonstrated experience in a leadership or supervisory role.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • “Hands-on” leader with strong understanding of transportation regulations and safety protocols.
  • Excellent time management, communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic and potentially physically demanding environment.
  • Proficiency in relevant software and technology used in transload and railroad operations is preferred.
