Position Summary:
The Rail Operations Supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily rail and transloading operations, ensuring the safe, efficient, and compliant movement of railcars and products. This role works closely with the President on operational planning, coordinates with railroad partners, and leads on-site teams to execute switching, transloading, and inspection activities. The position plays a key role in driving productivity, maintaining safety standards, and supporting overall operational success.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work directly with the President to plan and execute daily transloading and rail operations
- Coordinate switching activities, manpower, and equipment utilization to maximize efficiency
- Ensure seamless workflow between rail movements and transloading operations
- Partner with support teams to monitor and manage railcar status across the yard
- Coordinate switch plans, inbound/outbound movements, and releases with Class I rail partners
- Supervise and coordinate the activities of train crews and transload personnel
- Communicate daily switching instructions and operational plans via radio, phone, or in-person direction
- Ensure accuracy of train lists, railcar reporting, and operational documentation
- Oversee completion of daily crew reporting, work logs, and operational metrics
- Manage hours worked and ensure timely submission for payroll processing
- Lead, mentor, and develop team members to improve productivity, efficiency, and engagement
- Foster a positive work environment that promotes teamwork, accountability, and the ONETEAM culture
- Ensure all customer, railcar, and equipment inspections are completed accurately and on time
- Maintain compliance with all federal, state, and company safety regulations and operating rules
- Promote and enforce a strong safety culture to prevent incidents and injuries
- Investigate accidents/incidents and implement corrective actions as needed
- Coordinate and oversee transload operations including material handling, equipment use, and facility workflow
- Manage inventory of materials, supplies, and critical equipment
- Interact with customers and participate in operational planning and review meetings
- Support hiring, training, performance management, and development of team members
- Adjust operational plans based on workload, track conditions, and business needs
- Provide coverage and operational support as needed, including nights, weekends, and holidays
Qualifications:
- Experience in rail operations, switching, or transloading environments preferred
- Prior supervisory or leadership experience strongly preferred
- Working knowledge of FRA regulations and railroad operations (FRA 240/242 certifications preferred)
- Experience with railcar tracking systems (e.g., RMI) and operational reporting
- Strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to communicate effectively with crews, customers, and leadership
- Experience with bulk material handling, forklifts, conveyors, or similar equipment preferred
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook)
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, outdoor environment and respond to changing operational needs
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record

- Ability to pass required background check, drug screen, and training programs
- Must be able to work flexible schedules, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed
- Ability to perform physical job duties in an outdoor environment, including walking, climbing, lifting, and working around moving equipment
